If you have an indoor cat, you know that dealing with litter is an ongoing effort. But if you care about the environment, what's the most eco-friendly way to deal with cat litter?
My cat, Gaston (pictured), recently approved the answer on Indiana Living Green, one of two websites I oversee for NUVO, Inc.
In our newest feature, "Ask Renee," Indiana green goddess Renee Sweany says she prefers corn-based products because they're scoopable.
What does Gaston prefer? He's a big fan of unscented Yesterday's News, made from recycled paper. It doesn't clump in the same way as clay, but it's easy to tell what needs to be scooped out and thrown away.
And as Renee suggests, we reuse the bag - and cat-food bags - to put the used litter in.
Gaston's favorite part about Yesterday's News? Since it's made from newspaper, he has plenty of reading material when he's on his "toilet"!
What kind of litter do you use and why?
